Amid the 50th celebration for Hip Hop, Soulja Boy is not having it as being excluded as part of hip hop history and made his voice known. The rapper took to Twitter where he goes into depth of how he had influenced the new age rappers to make use of the internet.
“When I came in the game they said I killed hip hop. But really, I birthed the new wave of hip hop with internet/streaming. Ahead of my time.” He wrote.
He also noted how others followed his footsteps in regards to “vlogging their career”
“Now everyone vlogs their career like me Now everyone uploads their music to the internet. Now everyone goes live for their fans. I started it. Thank me or not. Flowers/Credit or not.”
Soulja Boy came into the scene in 2007 with his hit single “Crank Dat” that reached Number one on Billboard Hot 100 Charts for seven weeks. He also gained a number three spot on the charts with his song “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” in 2008.
