Rapper Big Sean was chosen as the latest musical guest to appear on the segment, Tiny Desk. He appeared on the show where he performed 14 hits such as “Memories,” “I Don’t F–k With You,” “Blessings,” “All Me,” “Bounce Back,” and his newest single “Precision.”
Speaking to the crowd, Big Sean said, “I remember it was a stressful time for me because when my second album dropped it didn’t do as well as my first album. People was like, ‘Oh, sophomore slump. It’s over for him.’ You know, counting me out crazy. And then I was able to lock in and make my third album, which was Dark Sky Paradise, which was one of my biggest albums. The point in bringing that up is, like, don’t let people place their curse on you of what they want you to be or who they think you are.”
He then also shared what that performance will mean to him and his family. “It’s a monumental moment for me This is something my kids can look back on, something my family can look back on, and see where dad was at, see where I was at in my career at this point in time.”
He also added his insight into the conversation of the “big 3” surrounding Drake, Kendrick and J Cole.
“I think where I lack most as an artist is consistency. I just haven’t had the energy to compete with enemies, or y’all so-called bigger three.”
He had previously collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on his single, “Control” that sparked the biggest and controversial conversation in hip hop among who was “the greatest” rapper.
