Jussie Smollett Facing Jail Time After His Conviction Has Been Upheld

Actor Jussie Smollett may be facing jail time after a Illinois court had decided to uphold his conviction to serve 150 days in jail in addition to paying a fine totaling up to $150,000 for staging a fake hate crime back in 2019.

He had previously been found guilty back in December 2021 and sentenced to 30 months of felony probation. Smollett had been in jail for a week until he had been released after his sentencing was delayed as he was also granted bail until the appeal was resolved.

Just this year, Smollett had filed for an appeal stating that prosecutors “violated his process rights.” With the new ruling, he will have to finish the 150 days, but him and his legal team are allowed to exercise the right to another appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court.
