Jada Pinkett has just dropped a major bomb on the internet on Wednesday as she has revealed that she and husband Will Smith have been officially separated since 2016. The two have appeared to be happy and in love via social media, but Pinkett-Smith says otherwise.
Speaking with the Today Show, she shared the news of their separation where she states that it “isn’t a divorce on paper.”
“I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” she told Hoda Kotb. She further explains what went wrong in their relationship and how things played out.
“Why it fractured…that — that’s a lot of things…By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” she says.
She continued to share that she has thought of going through the process of legally divorcing Will Smith, but had been unable to go through with it.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through…whatever. I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
She also shocked viewers when she revealed that Chris Rock had asked her out on a date due to press previously reporting that she and Will were getting a divorce.
“I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce. And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.”
As of now, Will has yet to speak of the news.
