Young Thug’s lawyers are going in overtime to free the YSL rapper from the RICO charge, as they have filed a new motion to remove his lyrics as evidence in the case. In court documents obtained, All Hip Hop, his lawyers requested the motion stating:
“The admission and use of these lyrics/poetry/artistry against [Young Thug] in his upcoming trial would be a Constitutional violation and an abuse of discretion, too prejudicial and unconstitutional. Moreover, using these lyrics/poetry/artistry/speech against [Young Thug] is racist and discriminatory because the jury will be so poisoned and prejudiced by these lyrics/poetry/artistry/speech.”
The trial is nearing as it begins January 9, 2023 and can take up quite a bit of time.
Young Thug’s attorneys have filed a new motion to dismiss RICO charges against him as they have discovered that Fulton County DA’s illegally obtained evidence against him. The questionable evidence stems from a 2015 case of a rental car that is linked to a murder in the same year.
The evidence stated that Young Thug “rented a 2014 silver Infiniti Q50 from HERTZ Rent-a-Car that was used on January 10th 2015 to murder rival gang member Donovan Thomas Jr,” but Thug, real name Jeffery Williams’ legal team stated that the DA office had falsified legal documents in 2016 regarding obtaining the rental car information.
Documents that were filed in Fulton County Superior court state that the DA Office is “utilizing a sham Grand Jury Subpoena and issuing same to the Hertz Corporation for rental record information relating to Mr. Jeffery Williams.”
As of now YT has been denied twice and if the dismissal doesn’t hold up, he will have to await his trial on January 9th, 2023.
It looks like Fulton County is not letting up on Young Thug getting out of jail any time soon ahead of his trial as he just has been denied bond for a third time. Fulton County Superior court has filed addition charges against Atlanta-based rapper Young Thug and some of his alleged associates in its RICO Act and street gang case. YT is now accused of illegally possessing multiple firearms, including a modified machine gun, in addition to street gang activity and drug trafficking.
“Charges were added for defendants via re-indictment based on evidence found at arrests. When Mr. Williams was arrested on May 9, evidence was recovered that resulted in the additional charges, including a charge of possession of a machine gun.” the statement read.
Young Thug and associates of his are being accused of possessing and attempting to sell marijuana and cocaine back in May 2022. The new indictment also states that they were possessing multiple guns such as a GLOCK 357, a FN firearm, a GLOCK 19, a Smith & Wesson M&P and a GLOCK 45 with a “converter switch and extended magazine.” The GLOCK 45 modified into a machine gun resulted in another gun possession charge.
The total list of charges against 28 accused is up to 65 counts and Young Thug could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
Rapper Gunna, real name Sergio Kitchens has made a statement in regards to his case and how he is innocent in this situation. The message was posted via social media where he opens with 2022 being the best year of his life and dates the letter at June 14.
He captioned the post on Instagram “22 & 2, just a bed & a shower, no windows just walls. Can’t see or talk to anyone. I’m writing now & still praying everyday . I was raised to fight fire with water, even tho my country’s amendments have failed me! PROTECT BLACK ART!”
Even though due to obvious circumstances of not being there physically, Young Thug has found himself to still to be at Hot 97’s Summer Jam with a message of thanks to his supporters there.
Young Thug sent a positive message urging fans sign the petition Protect Black Art initiative, a law that could prevent prosecutors from using rappers’ lyrics in court against them.
“I just want to say thank you to all of my friends and my family for coming out and supporting us,” Thug began. “You know, your support during this time means a lot to us, ya know. You know, this isn’t just about me or YSL, I always use my music as a form of artistic expression, and now I see that Black artists and rappers don’t have that, you know, freedom,” He says through a audio message on the big screen.
“Everybody please sign the ‘Protect Black Art’ petition and keep praying for us. I love you all.”
Young Thug is looking to be locked up at least until 2023, where he will go back to trial on January 9th, 2023. You can also sign the Protect Black Art petition here.
Today in court Judge Ural D. Glanville has denied Young Thug’s bond in the seven hour bond hearing yesterday, June 2nd.
Judge Glanville denied Young Thug bond stating that the rapper is a potential danger to the community and witnesses. “There has been significant proffers about Mr. Williams being a danger to the community. In particular, the state’s proffer that they have taken proffers from other gang members, people who are in this particular indictment and others who are not in this indictment—that he is the leader of the gang, he is dangerous and if he crosses them he’ll kill them or their families.”
Prosecutor Don Geary spoke up about concerns for the safety of the witnesses.
“We have evidence and information of even more threats. Our witnesses in this case are being threatened with violence, serious violence and death,” Geary said. The court is open to looking into bond next year January 9th, 2023.
Young Thug, real name Jeffery Williams trial date has been postponed. The rappers appeared in court Monday afternoon for the hearing as the Fulton County Prosecutors asked that Williams remained in jail stating that some of the witnesses had been threatened.
A bond hearing for Young Thug won’t take place until next month according to AJC. Prosecutors also feel as though Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, should be disqualified as his lawyer because he represents others charged in the same case.
Due to the fact that Williams doesn’t appear to be getting out anytime soon, his event Young Thug & Friends that was coming up on June 18, ultimately had to be cancelled.
A judge has denied Gunna a bond once again for the second time after Kitchens’ lawyer Steve Sadow gave a proposed list of conditions including having a secured $750,000 bond, forfeiting three properties and other things according to WSB-TV Atlanta.
Prosecutor Don Geary stated that Gunna should be denied bond because he has a high ranking in the YSL gang and assumes the command role that sends hits out against their rival gang with Gunna’s attorney responding back and calling those allegations false. He even proposed that Kitchens was also fine with a wire tap on his phones.
Ultimately, his bond was denied and he has a set trial date for January 9, 2023.
